Men’s Skincare Tip #1 - Learn Exactly What Skin Type You Have.

Skin types vary from person to person and are one of the deciding factors in selecting which specific skin care products you need. Everyone has a dead, dry skin cell build-up on the surface of their skin, and this can hide and trap oily skin underneath. This is usually due to improper cleansing. For instance, if you use soap to wash your face, this will dry your skin on the surface and leave you with an unsightly dull build-up on your surface.

The most important step to obtaining great skin IS proper cleansing. I developed several cleansers that can be used day and night that help to nourish the skin while cleansing it. Most cleansers  dry your skin, leaving you feeling uncomfortable. Even shaving becomes less problematic when using proper cleansing products like my Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Milk. You can shave with them as well to alleviate rashes and irritation.

A) Oily Skin. Your skin looks and feels greasy, your pores are large, and it looks dull. Cleansing with soap will cause this but also, your diet contributes heavily to this condition. Eating fatty, fried foods, processed foods, sugar, and carbs, actually creates what is called a 'fatty liver' which, in turn, gives you oily skin.

B) Dry Skin.  It looks dehydrated, brittle, crinkled, dull, and lacks luster. Dry skin is loaded with tiny, fine lines and wrinkles using proper skin care for dry skin as well as eating more healthy foods that contain good fats like avocado, extra virgin olive oil, fatty wild-caught fish, raw nuts, like almonds, pistachios, walnuts, pecans, as well as seeds, like pumpkin, flax, sesame (black and white) chia, sunflower seeds, helps combat dryness internally due to their high omega 3 content. The good news is that this way of eating helps your brain.

C) Sensitive Skin. It is vulnerable to external extreme temperatures, as well as an overly acidic diet high in sugar, spicy and processed foods, AND excess alcohol consumption which cause inflammation. A healthy diet will help get to the root of the problem. However, sensitive skin can be soothed and nourished externally as well.

D) Combination Skin. Consists of a mix of both dry and oily skin, with the T-zone being prone to oiliness, blackhead accumulation, and large pores, while the cheeks can be normally dry.

E) Normal Skin. Well, it is just normal. Not excessive in any way.

Men’s Skincare Tip #2 - Use Natural, Holistic Skin Care Products

For over 5 decades I have devoted my life to creating spa treatments and skin care products that help to get to the root of the problem, as well as give you the appearance of younger, fresher and more radiant skin.

When I first started, in NYC in 1983, I quickly attracted a clientele that was filled with young models trying to make a name for themselves, (and most of them went on to be major celebs) socialites, famous actors and singers, politicians, and Wall Street and Hollywood tycoons because I was delivering results.

At the beginning of my career, I made my products in my kitchen from whole foods, honey, bee pollen, herbs, and other healthy ingredients from my pantry to deliver results, until I came up with my skincare line. I would fly to Paris a few times a year to buy all of the essential oils available at the time as well as algae and seaweed extracts and anything else I could find to help my clients have the skin of their dreams.

As a skincare expert today giving facials and other services in my spa I still sadly see people who have been ruined by medical procedures that have given them permanent damage and have disfigured some of them.

It is so unnecessary. With simple, holistic beauty treatments, good daily skin care, and a great diet and lifestyle, younger-looking skin is within everyone's reach. The natural, gentle approach is the best one I have found.

Men’s Skincare Tip #3 - Use Proper Shaving Techniques.

Just as I consult my female clients about the dangers to their skin from abrasive chemicals and painful, unnecessary dermatological skin treatments, I caution my male clients against the abusive use of harmful shaving techniques.

My male clients have been so happy to have been rid of ingrown hairs, razor bumps, abrasions, and rashes due to using my products. My Cleansing Gel is perfect for normal to oily skin and my Cleansing Milk is perfect for dry, mature, and sensitive skin. Both products are great for shaving as well as cleansing.

Men’s Skincare Tip #4 - Cleanse twice a day.

Your skin perspires all day and night. The skin is an eliminative organ, so your perspiration is a way for your body to release toxins that need to be whisked away morning and night.

Just spend 2 minutes in the morning and evening to properly care for your skin. The results are amazing and quick.

Men’s Skincare Tip #5 - Make Use of Skincare Facial Masks.

By using my Hydrating Gel Mask, Sea Clay Mask, or the Pore Minimizing Mask once or twice a week, you will look and feel younger and more refreshed.

Masks are easy to use and make a big difference in your appearance.

Just apply a small amount on a clean face and neck and leave it on for 15 minutes. Remove with a warm damp washcloth and then rinse with cool water. Follow with your normal skincare routine. Masks can be used in the morning or evening. Also, if you do have blemishes, dab a small amount of either Sea Clay Mask or Pore Minimizing Mask on each blemish and leave it on overnight.

Men’s Skincare Tip #6 - Prioritize Water Intake and Hydration.

Water is the most essential resource to keep your whole body functioning well.

Drink lots of fresh, filtered water as you go about your day. Preferably, a minimum of ½ ounce per pound of body weight. So, if you weigh 180 pounds, you’d want at least 90 ounces of water daily. Spread out your consumption throughout the day.

It is also wise to eat fruits and veggies that contain a lot of water, like lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, celery, berries, etc. This is great for your gut health too.

Men’s Skincare Tip #7 - Always protect your skin from the Sun and UV Rays.

Too much exposure to the sun and electromagnetic radiation causes premature aging, as well as cancer.  Everyone thrives when they are outdoors. It is so great for your mind, body and, spirit. Just make sure you are using great sunscreen, and that you reapply it every 2 hours.

My SPF contains healing ingredients like Japanese green tea, zinc, and other minerals and trace elements that support healthy skin without clogging your pores and causing breakouts.

Men’s Skincare Tip #8 - Manage your stress levels

Everyone has stress in their lives. It is inevitable. It can be really hard to manage and cause one to make decisions that will bring them down. There are ways to keep it under control.  Stress can dominate the way you feel, and the energy you give off, and negatively affect the way you look. Stress can be mitigated by something as simple as taking a calming bath, meditation, exercise, yoga, and breathing techniques, just to name a few.

There are apps you can get on your phones that can remind you to breathe, take a walk, etc. Technology can be very helpful. With the correct information, you can learn how to manage your stress levels better and even become skilled at letting it go completely whenever you want.

Men’s Skincare Tip #9 - Make Your Pantry Part of Your Health and Beauty Routine.

It’s hard to fathom how we can all walk down aisle after aisle at the grocery store to find that most of the items they carry are processed, unhealthy, unnatural, and inorganic manufactured foodstuffs.

Men's Skincare Starts With What You Eat

Fresh and natural is the way to go. You will look and feel better right away. Your skin will be clear, healthy and, attractive. The best part about this is that your immune system will get a big boost too.

  1. Stop eating unwholesome junk foods and sugary snacks, and find healthy, organic, natural replacements that move you toward healthier skin. Make it easy on yourself. At work, keep a bag of nuts in your drawer. Snacking on this will satiate you and give your energy, without causing you to break out.

  2. Dismiss sugary soft drinks, fake fruit juice liquids, energy drinks, ice coffees, and other beverages and replace them with fresh, organic vegetable juices, water with lemon and apple cider vinegar added to it, and just the occasional smoothie.  My book, "The Ciminelli Solution, a 7-Day Plan For Radiant Skin", has a whole section on smoothies and juices that will give you tons of energy and make you look and feel great. I keep Moringa Powder at work and make it into a tea during the day or add it to a smoothie because it is a complete protein and is so full of nutrients that provide energy throughout the day.

  3. Eat lean, organic meats free from chemicals, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, and cruel slaughtering standards. Also, eat wild-caught fish whenever possible.
