November Newsletter

Practice Gratitude

November is the month that helps you find reasons to be thankful. Thankful for the bounty that the earth provides us. Especially in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, water, and the beauty that it majestically displays. Even the spectacle being displayed by the active volcanoes around the world. New land is being formed as homes, buildings, farmland are being vaporized. I am deeply sorry for people's losses but am amazed to be alive during such an exciting and important time. Transformation is the key to prolonged existence. Learning how to adapt to the changing and challenging times all around us is key for survival on every level.

I hope you find peace from within and as usual, I am encouraging you to meditate as often as possible to bring you the deep peace that will sustain you on your life's path. I listen to several different YouTube meditation videos that lull me into the deepest meditative state possible. During meditation, your body is able to heal itself. Meditation helps your brain become stronger, your emotions to be more balanced, and your outlook on life to become more positive.

I feel this is important because so many women who come to me for facials are duped into thinking that the approach to skincare that includes facial wipes for cleaning your skin or using retinol to remove wrinkles is the right approach to skincare. Even young women are being given retinol to use daily on their skin with the promise of beautiful skin only to see that they are prematurely aging and are dry and flaky. Retinols thin your skin. You need plump fat skin in order to age gracefully. Eating a healthy diet helps you have plump skin, and so does using products loaded with pure essential oils, algae, anti-oxidants, vitamins, and minerals. I was always attracted to using the most potent and powerfully nourishing ingredients when creating my products. When I first started out on my own, after leaving Helena Rubinstein in 1983, I used to fly to Paris to purchase the best seaweed extracts and essential oils to use on the young models I was working on at the time. These models really needed help with their skin and I needed to use the most potent natural ingredients possible to be successful with them. They were counting on me. My reputation grew amongst the modeling industry and I started attracting the big names like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, and many more. They depended on me to work my magic on their faces and bodies with my facials, lymphatic drainage massage, and seaweed body wraps. It was a fun time in my career. Eventually, A-list actors and actresses found their way onto my table.

In the early 80's I was able to scrape up enough money to create my own product line and the rest is history.
I do believe that what you eat, your state of mind while you are eating, how well you digest your food, and then how well you eliminate the waste from your body is the best way to maintain good health and beauty. It still amazes me to see people eating on the go, not drinking enough water, not washing their faces twice a day, and in general not taking their health and wellness seriously enough. Covid taught us to wash our hands more and to keep our environment clean. Also, it's essential to take certain vitamins to boost your immune system, like Vitamin D3 5000 iu's, Vitamin C 500 mg several times a day, Chelated Zinc at the daily recommended dose, and to keep your liver clean and strong with Milk Thistle and Dandelion. These are all things I have been teaching my clients for decades just to have a beautiful complexion and to live a healthy life.

Since diet plays such an important role in your health and beauty, here are a few recipes that can help you along.

Roasted Caramelized Butternut squash

1 butternut squash peeled and cut into small pieces.
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground coriander
1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
1 /2 teaspoon of sea salt and fresh ground white pepper to taste

Toss well. Bake in preheated oven on a sheet pan for 1/2 hour or until tender and caramelized.

A smoothie that is excellent for clearing inflammatory skin issues and aids in weight loss:

3/4 cup fresh organic blueberries (anti-oxidants, helps lower LDL cholesterol, anti-aging)
1/2 cup of almonds (protein, vitamin E, magnesium, and manganese)
2 1/2 cups of filtered water
1 teaspoon of cinnamon (powerful anti-oxidant and great for helping weight loss)
1 teaspoon of cardamom (antimicrobial)
1 teaspoon of ground coriander (anti-inflammatory and helps with weight loss)
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves (anti-inflammatory)
1 teaspoon of ground ginger (anti-inflammatory)
1 tablespoon of bee pollen (anti-aging)
1/2 cup chopped organic kale (full of anti-aging nutrients)

Blend on high speed in a powerful blender until completely creamy. Add water if necessary.

I drink one glass of this in the morning after my glass of water with fresh lemon juice. I save the rest for later in the day when I want to snack. Very satisfying.
