Susan’s Tips:
The Causes of Rosacea and How to treat it:

Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face. Rosacea can occur in anyone but is most commonly seen amongst middle-aged women with fair skin. The cause of rosacea is from over acidic blood from stress, lifestyle and poor food choices. Rosacea can be kept under control as long as you’re taking care of your body. The quality of your blood is directly linked to your food choices. Choose more foods from the alkaline category as much as possible. Food is like fuel and medicine, which is why it’s so important to always be conscious of what goes into your body and also how relaxed you are when you are eating for proper digestion and absorption. Limit alcohol and coffee as much as possible. These drinks can dilate blood vessels and contribute to facial redness as well as tax the liver. You should also consider avoiding wheat due to its highly acidic nature. So many people don’t know that they have an intolerance to wheat and that’s what is causing redness in their skin. Avoid spicy foods as well. It will break capillaries and inflame the skin. Eat seaweed as often as you can to feed your skin important powerful nutrients. Omega-3s are a superfood for anti-inflammation and are amazing for decreasing redness. Salmon is loaded with omega-3s. Susan has delicious salmon recipes in her book The Ciminelli Solution: A 7-Day Plan for Radiant Skin.

Q&A with Susan

Q: What changes should I be making to my skincare routine in the winter?
A: In the winter you need to hydrate AND moisturize your skin. This means you need to infuse your skin with nourishing moisture from hyaluronic acid as well as mineral rich Seawater AND follow with products containing nourishing essential oils, vitamin E, Shea butter, algae extracts and powerful antioxidants. Don’t dry your skin with soap or face toiletries filled with chemicals. Cleansing with Cleansing Milk can soothe irritated skin. Just remember to remove it thoroughly with a damp warm washcloth and I immediately follow with your hydrating routine. This will prepare you for the cold winter air.

Q: What causes itchy skin in the winter?
A: The dry air is what causes this condition. Now is the time to pull out your humidifier and keep it going 24/7. Just remember to clean the filter when it starts to smell musty. My favorite humidifier is made by Honeywell.

Q: If I have oily skin, should I still hydrate?
A: Yes, always hydrate your skin. If your skin is oily, clean up your diet. Don’t eat sugar, fried foods, processed foods or dairy. Drinking water with fresh squeezed lemon juice added to it will help balance and cleanse the liver. I always take one milk thistle pill a day to keep my liver healthy as well as drink a pot of dandelion tea. The liver love dark green leafy veggies like kale and spinach. Infuse your salads with a mound of fresh parsley, cilantro and basil. This helps keep your liver in good shape. Limit alcohol consumption and coffee as well.

Q: How often do I need to exfoliate my skin in the winter?
A: Every day!!! Why apply moisturizer on top of a layer of dead, dull skin cells. Remove them so your moisturizer can properly hydrate and nourish your skin.

Q: Do I still need to use SPF in the Winter?
A: Yes, very important to always use SPF! Don’t use a waterproof one, it’s unnecessary. The sun’s rays are so powerful! If you ski or are outdoors a lot in the winter you need to protect your skin every 2 hours.

Q: What product of yours will best help my skin transition during the colder months?
A: Our trilogy of Hydrating Formula, Marine Lotion, Seawater WITH the addition of our Very Berry Serum. These products used daily under your moisturizer will totally protect you from the harsh winter elements.

Q: Is it necessary to moisturize both in the morning and at night?
A: Yes, especially in the winter. Don’t be lazy. It takes a couple of minutes morning and evening to take good care of your skin. You will deeply regret it when you are older if you don’t make the effort to nourish and love yourself!!! It even makes your make up look better when your canvas or skin is in great shape!

Q: What would you recommend using for an at home facial that is good for the winter season?
A: I recommend using my 123 Glow Kit whenever you feel too dry or your skin is irritated. The organic hyaluronic acid replenishes your skin during the cold winter months. Also, after cleansing with our cleansing milk, you can steam your pores over a pot of chamomile tea for 5 minutes. Follow with the Hydrating Gel Mask for 20 minutes. Remove with warm damp washcloth and proceed with your nighttime routine.
